Mr. Thor, 58, is from Penang. His wife, Mrs. Lim, spoke first, saying that since July last year, he had been experiencing a sore throat, and at first thought it was due to eating durian. He went to a clinic, where he was given three injections because it was so severe, but the pain persisted and did not improve. Later, he also tried traditional Chinese medicine and took medication, but still did not improve, so he decided to go to the hospital.
 
Mrs. Lim said that the doctor found a tumor in Mr. Thor's right throat and referred him to a specialist in Penang, where he needed to have a catheter and tracheostomy tube installed, and the tumor continued to grow. The doctor diagnosed him with stage IV esophageal cancer and he needed to undergo seven rounds of five-day chemotherapy. By the third round of chemotherapy, the tumor began to shrink, and by the fourth round, it disappeared. Every time he sees a doctor, he must have a gastroscopy to see if his food is going into his stomach or lungs. If it is found to be going into his lungs, it is not recommended to remove the tracheal tube. Mrs. Lim said the nasal tube is also about to be removed.
 
Mr. Thor said that these tubes made him feel uncomfortable and hindered his daily life. Even when going to the toilet, he has to wear a machine, and even when sleeping, the machine has to be turned on. Mr. Thor also said that the phlegm in his throat has always made him uncomfortable, and he has to have a bucket next to him when sleeping, and when it is severe, he even needs a machine to clear the phlegm. To this day, Mr. Thor's throat is scarred and there is a thick accumulation of blood.
